Intro

We just completed a 4500km journey through the south of Namibia. It was the experience of a lifetime and I would highly recommend anyone to try the magnificent country.

This blog will serve as a summary of the trip, what I like/disliked, and a few tips. Please bear with me as this is my first trip report as well as my first camping trip (since childhood) so this will most probably be aimed at camping beginners.

The trip

We were a group of 4 people driving in a single Fortuner. Yes, we had to pack lightly but we packed everything we needed and even bought a canvas tent in Walvis Bay which we easily packed in (more on this later).

A friend had his wedding in Windhoek which prompted us to organize this trip.

The route

Day 1: Delmas => Augrabies
Day 2: Augrabies => Ai Ais
Day 3: Ai Ais
Day 4: Ai Ais => Mount D'urban
Day 5: Mount D'urban => Sesriem Oshana
Day 6: Sesriem Oshana => Swakopmund (Windpomp 14)
Day 7: Swakopmund (Windpomp 14)
Day 8: Swakopmund (Windpomp 14) => Windhoek
Day 9: Windhoek => Kang (Botswana)
Day 10: Kang => SA

My highlights

Ai-Ais had some of the best views I have ever seen. This coupled with the hot springs made Ai-Ais unforgettable.

The burger and bubblegum milkshake I had at Canyon Roadhouse was one of the best meals I have ever eaten in my life. Yes, I was hungry, but everything about the meal was perfect. We finished off the meal with some droewors and apfelstrudel from Canyon Farm Yard.

The stars at Mount D'Urban was unreal, I have never seen so many stars completely consuming all of the sky. Oom Boeta took us on a hunting trip as well, which took us around his farm and was quite the sight to behold.

Lowlights

The facilities and baboons at Ai-Ais was quite bad, but the views made it all worth it.

The roads going to Sesriem and then up to Windhoek was in a shocking state.

The tourists at Sossusvlei throwing trash everywhere and making noise until late at night left a sour taste.
